Jo Chubb took part in the Olympic relay carrying the torch on the Middlesbrough leg of its journey last month.
Ms Chubb, who works in the neonatal unit at the James Cook University Hospital, was nominated by former colleague, Sue Seargeant, in recognition of her fundraising efforts and for retraining as a neonatal nurse after daughter Emily needed medical help. She was formerly an engineer.
Ms Chubb said: ‘I now work in an area of nursing I love and can give something back to those in a similar situation. Carrying the Olympic torch was one of the most memorable occasions of my life and it was an honour.’
